4th Grade News – September 26
It’s amazing how quickly four weeks have gone by! It feels like a well established class room already: routines are firmly in place, student work is on the walls, and I think I now know everyone’s last name.
Conferences at Willard are in about three weeks, October 18th and 19th in the evening. I have continued to use the site www.ptcfast.com/reg1 to do the scheduling. I think you’ll find it as easy to use as I do. You may go to the site now, use my entry code ZGC153229 , and select a time slot. If neither of these two dates work for your schedule, contact me, and we’ll find an alternative.
Instruments Music lessons begin this week for Willard students. Please make sure to have a name tag on the case, and even tie a bright identifying “something” to the handle (like we do with luggage) as many look alike. Kids may stash their instruments in the class room until it’s lesson time. Basses and Cellos should be left in the basement’s music room first thing in the morning before the bell rings, and retrieved at the day’s end.
Reading at Night Does your 4th grader really pick up a chapter book and read for at least twenty minutes each night? If not, just let me know! Our librarian and I will see to it that an appropriate book is selected, and your child and I will negotiate the number of pages to be read each week.
Unit #1 Math Test will come home this week. I use these assessments to re group and re teach as needed. I’ll often highlight just a few problems to be fixed at home, and ask that the test be returned to school in a few days.
Times Tables Everyone took a 50 fact quiz, and will be given five of their missed facts each week. A few students will be done by next week, most take a month or two. Kids add five new facts into their planners on Monday, and I quiz them whenever they’re ready, no later than Friday. 5 facts in 5 days? Easy! Learn all your facts through 12 before Thanksgiving, and you get to have lunch with your teacher!
Google Docs at home There will be occasions when I ask students to complete a document at home that’s been started in class. Kids can access all of their written work by going to Google and searching docs.district65.net. Once at the district’s site, they then enter their user name and password (numbers changed from last year). I printed these codes for kids, and we taped them into our student planners
